About the Author
Christina Rain
Christina Rain is a German author of dark romance, romantasy and dark fantasy. The name is a pen name for Kristina Krieger, who was born in 1993 and writes from near Dortmund. She is part of the wave of German-language romantasy authors who reached international audiences in the mid-2020s on the strength of social-media driven discovery, particularly on BookTok and Bookstagram.
Rain first built a following with her "Knightstone Academy" series, a dark academia romance set at a secretive elite school where students are entangled in occult bloodline conflicts. The series established the elements that recur across her later work: morally grey love interests, slow-burn enemies-to-lovers dynamics, magical hierarchies framed in terms of bloodlines and inheritance, and on-page content aimed at adult readers rather than the young-adult fantasy market.
Her dark-fantasy trilogy "Blood and Magic" opens with "Magic Drowned in Blood," published in 2026 by LYX Verlag. The book launches a new world in which magic is bound to blood and the cost of wielding it is measured in lives. The German edition is being followed by translations and audiobook adaptations, and the series has been positioned by her publisher as the breakout follow-up to Knightstone Academy.
Rain's books fit into the broader romantasy category alongside authors such as Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer L. Armentrout, but with a distinctly darker register — closer to the German Dunkle Romantasy tradition that emphasizes Gothic atmosphere, court intrigue and the ethical weight of magic. Her work appeals to readers who want the romantic structure of the genre paired with high-stakes worldbuilding and a willingness to follow flawed characters into difficult moral territory.
