About the Author

Scott McEwen

Scott McEwen is an American attorney and author best known as the co-writer of "American Sniper," the 2012 memoir of U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle that became a number-one New York Times bestseller and the basis for Clint Eastwood's 2014 film of the same name. McEwen practices law in San Diego, California, and has written or co-written multiple bestselling works of nonfiction and military fiction since the success of that first project. "American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History," co-authored with Kyle and journalist Jim DeFelice and published by William Morrow, recounts Kyle's four combat deployments to Iraq and his work training other military and law-enforcement snipers after leaving active duty. The book spent more than a year on the bestseller list and helped reset the publishing market for first-person military memoirs. McEwen turned the research relationships he built during the Kyle project into a long-running military thriller series, the Sniper Elite novels, co-written with novelist Thomas Koloniar and published by Center Street. The series follows Master Chief Gil Shannon, a fictional Navy SEAL sniper, through operations across Iraq, Afghanistan, Russia, Africa and Latin America. Entries in the series include "Sniper Elite: One-Way Trip" (2013), "Target America" (2014), "Ghost Sniper" (2015) and "The Sniper and the Wolf" (2016), among others. The novels are pitched at readers of Vince Flynn, Brad Thor and Mark Greaney and are known for their attention to weapons, tradecraft and small-unit tactics. McEwen has also collaborated on nonfiction including "Eyes on Target" (2014), a study of the Navy SEAL teams written with Richard Miniter, and has been a frequent media commentator on Special Operations Forces and military policy.
